Carolina Panthers vs Atlanta Falcons 12/7
(Sports Network) - Carolina tries to end a two-game losing streak and possibly
clinch a division title Sunday night in Atlanta, where Michael Vick will make
his first start of the season for the Falcons.
Tampa Bay's failures this season have opened the door for a new NFC South
champ. The Carolina Panthers can wrap up their first division crown under John
Fox with a win over Vick's Falcons plus a New Orleans loss.
The Panthers will have plenty of incentive even if their quest for a division
championship is put on hold. Carolina has lost two straight, including a 25-16
home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week. Stephen Davis rushed for 115
yards -- the seventh time he's gone over the 100-yard mark this season -- but
it wasn't enough to overcome three missed field goals and a missed extra point
by kicker John Kasay.
The Falcons lost their third straight game last week and are the worst team in
the NFC after a 17-13 loss at Houston. Vick played for the first time since
breaking his leg in a preseason game and was 8-of-11 passing for 60 yards; he
also ran three times for 16 yards. More importantly, he showed he could still
move around like he always has and he bounced back after taking a couple of
good hits. Vick's ability to run and buy time scrambling makes it much harder
to defend Atlanta.
"They have got a mobile quarterback versus a non-mobile quarterback," Carolina
coach John Fox said. "What that brings to the table is escapability. They are
a much different team in that sense. I know when healthy, he's an exceptional,
mobile quarterback. He makes things happen."
SERIES HISTORY: The Falcons have an 11-6 lead in the series and have won six
of seven against Carolina.
Carolina broke the six-game losing streak to Atlanta on September 28, 2003
with a 23-3 win at home. Davis rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown in the
game. It was the only game Carolina has won by more than a touchdown this
season.
Going with the panthers to win the game it is a pick as of now.The carolina panthers are looking to win their division, and michael vick may be rusty and still trying to work out his game. The falcons lost to houston last week and i don't see them beating a hungry carolina team.
